Haley L. Jones - I chose my parents carefully for their artistic leanings and have therefore always been able to draw. My formal training consisted of a 2 year Commercial Art Certificate which included one day a week of drawing in charcoal, with life drawing and capsicums instead of the usual vacuum cleaners and food packaging. There were other inputs into my artistic endeavours, with classes at night school, including oil painting with Joyce Abbott in Sydney, and some WEA classes. I won a terms' worth of tuition with Lorraine Lewitska after entering the Victor Harbor Rotary Art Show in S.A. and have twice won the Watercolour Prize at the Campbelltown City and Rotary Art Show, S.A. The major influence in my art has been The Salisbury Art Society which I joined in 1989. The camaraderie and support of like-minded people cannot be overestimated. I have been nurtured and encouraged to pursue my style and individuality and given the confidence to continue with my art as far as it will take me. I work mainly in watercolour, with forays into pastel and my beloved charcoal life drawing. I intend to paint and draw till I drop. It is a marvellous gift and I love being able to capture the interest of people enough that they want to have my work on their walls.
